Safety isn’t accidental: Practical, everyday approaches that build psychological safety

Psychological safety enables people to ask questions, raise concerns, learn from mistakes, and offer honest perspectives in service of the mission. It helps teams surface issues earlier, make better decisions, and stay connected to purpose under pressure. When psychological safety is assumed rather than intentionally cultivated, people begin to hold back, critical information goes unshared, and organizations lose insight and energy at the moment they need them most.

In this session, I’ll be joined by friend and colleague Deb Judge where we’ll explore what psychological safety is, why it matters for organizational health and effectiveness, and how leaders can intentionally shape the conditions that allow it to grow. Participants will leave with a clear, practical framework and concrete practices they can apply immediately within their organizations.

This session might be for your or your organization if…

  • You’re noticing that folks are hesitant to speak up, ask questions, or challenge decisions, even when issues are obvious.
  • You’re noticing tension, disengagement, or quiet burnout.
  • Mistakes tend to be hidden or handled quietly rather than used as opportunities for learning.
  • You want to strengthen trust and accountability without lowering expectations or avoiding hard conversations.
  • You’re looking for practical tools to foster healthier team dynamics.
